The Sea by John Banville (#14, Contemporary Literature)

One man. Three time periods. All depressing.

Meet Max, he is a depressed, sad, isolated, borderline suicidal alcoholic. He tells his present day story from the beach, a beach town he summered in as a child, a town he has returned to after the year-long decline, and finally death of his wife

Meet Max, he just found out his wife has one year left to live. Sometimes he hates her. Sometimes she hates him. They use to be happy.

Meet Max, he is 11 years old and spending the summer at the beach with his parents--a father who will soon abandon him. Watch Max pine over the Grace family--first Mrs. Grace and her voluptuous body, then Chloe, her 11 year old daughter. Think tragedy, think the Sea.

Who thinks I enjoyed this one?
